The Romanian State-owned company ‘Administration of the Seaports in Constance’, managing all Romanian ports on the Black Sea, is curious in purchasing the company Danube Logistics – operator and tenant of the global Port of Giurgiulești, which the European Bank for Reconstruction and improvement (EBOR) decided to sell. This information was provided on 19 April by the Romanian economedia portal.
As indicated, the Romanian company has already announced a tender to choice an advisor to assist in the acquisition process. The agreement with the consultant will be concluded for six weeks – at that time, the Romanian side wants a full study on the assets being taken over.
Let us callback that on 14 April EBRD announced a tender to search a fresh investor for the global Port of Giurgiulești. The Bank stressed that the full process is in close coordination with the Government of Moldova, including issues concerning the future legal and commercial structure of the port.
The port complex in Giurgiulești is the only port in Moldova with direct access to global waterways and the Black Sea. It consists of: Giurgiulești global Free Port, managed by the Danube Logistics (a company owned by EBOR), and Giurgiulești Freight and passenger port, which is managed by the state-owned Portul Fluvial Ungheni.
Port Giurgiulești, the only Moldovan port capable of receiving seagoing vessels, was due to the fact that in the 1990s Ukraine transferred respective 100 metres of coast over the Danube to Moldova.
