EC bans exports of poultry from Poland due to avian influenza

The European Commission plans to tighten the rules due to the expanding number of outbreaks of avian influenza in Poland. 73 cases of illness have been confirmed in the last 2 months, of which 53 have been confirmed in the Mazowieckie and Wielkopolskie voivodships. The EC defines the situation in our country as "particularly unfavourable", which involves, among another things, a advanced density of poultry farms.

Which regions will be prohibited from exporting poultry?

The European Commission is considering imposing 30-day embargo for sale of poultry from parts of voivodships: Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Łódź, Masovian, Warmian-Masurian and Wielkopolska. The final decision is due next week.

According to RMF FM reports, from 23 April, the export of poultry from the affected areas may be suspended. Not only meat but besides eggs, hatchings and poultry products will be prohibited. The exception will be the anticipation of selling after obtaining the vet's consent. If fresh outbreaks occur, the embargo will be extended for another month.
