On 24 March 1944, in Markowa, Podkarpacie, Germany murdered the eight-person Ulm household surviving there and the Jews they hid from the Goldman, Didner and Grünfeld families. Since 2018, on the anniversary of the crime in Markowa we celebrate the National Day of Memory of Poles saving Jews under German occupation. The festival was established by the Polish Parliament.
The Polish Parliament established the year 2024 as the Ulm household year. The resolution states that in 2024 it was the 80th anniversary of the execution of the household in Markowa in Podkarpacie by the German MP for hiding Jews.
