The Białostock Cultural Centre in cooperation with the Book of Podlaski and the Belarusian Esperant Society invites you to an extraordinary literary event. On the occasion of this year's edition of the National Reading the masterpiece of Polish Romanticism will sound in the global language Esperanto. The event will be held on 5 September at 3 p.m. at the Louis Zamenhof Centre at 19 Warsaw Street. Admission is free.
The lesson of this year's 15th edition of the Polish-wide action is Adam Mickiewicz's "Dziady" – a series of dramas combining the motifs of the pagan soul rite, fantasy, the themes of unhappy love and Polish messianism. While all of Poland will read the work in its native language, organizers encourage Belarusians to learn about the masterpieces of the romanticist era in Esperanto.
This is possible thanks to the poet Lidia Ligazie from Krakow, who took the effort to translate this text into a language created by Louis Zamenhof. Fragments of drama in Esperanto (titled in this translation) AvojMembers of the Belarusian Esperant Society will present them in the form of performative reading.
– Białystok as a city with multicultural traditions and the historical capital of Esperanto has a unique space to combine the nationwide action of National Reading with a unique linguistic heritage. We are pleased that thanks to cooperation with the Belarusian Esperant Society we can offer to the audience the classical of Polish Romanticism in Esperanto language – says Dr. Martyna Faustyna Zaniewska, manager of the Belarusian Cultural Centre.
At the same time with the text read in Esperanto, the audience will see the text on the screen in Polish and learn interesting facts from the life of Adam Mickiewicz.
There will besides be a fresh edition of the translation book prepared by Tomasz Chmielik.
The organizers encourage to bring their own copies of Dziadów from home, which will be stamped with a peculiar commemorative stamp sent by the Chancellery of the president of Poland.
