The possible deployment of United States atomic weapons in Lithuania would only be possible in a situation of crisis or war," stated Lithuanian defence minister Robertas Kaunas on Thursday.
– In times of crisis, and even more war, we would gotta take advantage of all the opportunities NATO offers
and the atomic arsenal of the United States or France," said Kaunas journalists. He noted that
“there is no place in the area
in Lithuania, weapons of mass destruction’.
The message by the head of the Defence Ministry is simply a reaction to the reports of the Financial Times that the United States is considering the anticipation of expanding the deployment of atomic weapons beyond the six countries where aircraft are presently capable of carrying them. Possible decisions would mean an increase in the number of host countries for alleged dual-use aircraft (DCA), capable of performing conventional and atomic missions.
