The surveillance directive will cover us all!

Confederate press conference attended by Members of the European Parliament Grzegorz Braun and Tomasz Buczek, 20 June 2024.

Grzegorz Braun:
– We want to point to another threat that flows from there [from the Union]. Under the pretext – as usual under a good pretext – in this case the protection of children, their concern for their safety in cyberspace, the euro-college tries to implement the surveillance directive. A directive that would consequence in access to all our communication in cyberspace. It's called Chat Control. The Council of the European Union will present vote on the regulation. This is simply a regulation that prohibits, no more or less, encryption of any messages that we send to ourselves online.

Sounds beautiful good. This is kid care. Fighting those who want to corrupt children. Who would endanger children in net communication. But it's just an excuse.

The Confederacy points out that this is an surveillance directive that is to concern us all. Under the pretext of protection, the defence of minors, all citizens, the inhabitants of the euro-collegiate, are to be exposed to the easy operation of all, not only of the services. This is due to the fact that it is so that we cannot hide anything from the large Brother who is the administrators of the European Union.

Adopting these provisions, designed in the European Union, will mean another step on the way to taking us all out of the right to privacy. The secret of correspondence – it was called that once. And too extraordinary situations – censorship, percussion, espionage – there was no interference in this sphere.

Today, the European Union complains that we may allegedly uncover ourselves at our own request and that we may not have any sphere in which we can hold our privacy.

These provisions are incompatible with the current line of case law in the European Union itself, where cases have been brought, for example in connection with the operation of the Russian communication tool Telegram. And here we have the case-law against surveillance, and the practice just, materialised in the form of this directive present voted against.

Representatives of specified a Signal company, a communicator that many of us use, have already reported that if this Euro-Colloche Directive is implemented, it will mean the end of Signal in Europe.

The Confederacy is always for freedom, and so besides for privacy, for the right to privacy. A trade secret, a confessional secret, attorney-client privilege. We are in favour of maintaining the right to privacy, and that is why we are strongly, in principle, opposed to specified a decision as the surveillance directive that the Council of the European Union has late drawn up.

Mr Buczek:
– At the beginning of 2023, we had already erstwhile attempted to hold akin rules, which were adopted by the national parliament. Then our Confederate opposition in the field resulted in a withdrawal from a akin trial. Today, akin rules are being tried by the Council of the European Union. This was erstwhile retained in the European Parliament in November 2023.

In the course of that effort to introduce these regulations on behalf of the European Parliament, an analysis was carried out which showed that the rules would not affect the protection of children, as this is technologically impracticable without a advanced percent of errors in the analysis of content.
This is simply a thing in my view of the Crown, which should completely lead to the collapse of this project. We will see how EU bodies behave.

It is besides worth mentioning that the secret of correspondence is not only this ancient letter, but besides the messages we send present by electronic means! We cannot let individual under the cover of expected kid protection to look at the content of political news, to influence policy-making later, to learn about the content of communication between the political party, between the leaders – and later to influence the results of elections.

We are categorically opposed to this. We hope that the European Union, the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union will not actually support these provisions. We will be together with you in Europarlament trying to halt harmful rules.
