Andrzej Duda enters the last week of his office. In a fewer days he will finish his second word as president of Poland. On 6 August, his successor Karol Nawrocki will be sworn in.
On Tuesday, July 29, president Andrzej Duda presented state awards to media representatives, but besides to politicians or diplomats. Among the winners were brothers Jacek and Michał Karnowski and Magdalena Orżynek.
Duda gave awards to Karnowski and Cucumber brothers
Michał and Jacek Karnowscy received the Officers' Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. Magdalena Cucumber was honored with the Golden Cross of Merit.
The justification for the award of the awards highlighted "outstanding achievements in the country's professional and social activity, for merit for free Poland".
Magdalena Ogórek, the 2015 presidential candidate, was in the past associated with the Polish tv during the time erstwhile Jacek Kurski was president. He presently works at the station in Poland24.
Andrzej Duda's decision sparked quite a few excitement on the web. The commentators besides included Deputy Prime Minister and abroad Minister Radosław Sikorski.
Radosław Sikorski did not bite his tongue
Radosław Sikorski made a short but strong comment on this matter. "First pardon, then medal. Next Bąkiewicz?" he wrote, adding a photograph of Magdalena Orżynek.
As we wrote on Temat.pl, Andrzej Duda at the end of 2023 pardoned right-wing publicists – Magdalena Ogórek and Rafał Ziemkiewicz. They were convicted of defamation of the activist.
Andrzej Duda forgave these people with fines and ordered them to erase convictions. The argument was then stated that "when he made a decision to exercise the law of grace, he had respect to the principles of justice and rationality of criminal repression, as well as the incidental nature of the actions of convicted persons".
Sikorski referred to Robert Bąkiewicz, who was besides pardoned by the President. In his case, it was a substance of violating the physical immunity of an activist known as "Grandmother Kasia". You can read more here.
