President Andrzej Duda gave erstwhile Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland, Vasily Zwarycz, who is known for glories of the flagism and humiliation of the Polish people, the Commander's Cross with the Star of the Order of Merit of the Republic. As announced on the President's authoritative website, the award was awarded “for outstanding merit in developing Polish-Ukrainian cooperation”. The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace.

Vasily Zwarycz, presently acting as Ambassador of Ukraine to the Czech Republic, expressed his thanks for the award granted. “Thank you so much for specified a peculiar honor! Diplomatic career of Ukrainian and demeaning Polish people with the approval of servants of the Kiev government from the Village and Presidential Palace

Born in Stryj close Lviv Vasily Zwarycz served many crucial functions in Ukrainian diplomatic service. He was the manager of the department in the Ukrainian Ministry of abroad Affairs (MFA) and worked in the Ukrainian diplomatic facility in Poland as a counselor. As ambassador of Ukraine, Zwarycz made controversial statements on various topics. On the 80th anniversary of the genocide in Volyn, he stated that he paid tribute to "citizens of the Second Poland, murdered in the areas occupied by the 3rd Reich", but did not identify any circumstantial perpetrators or victims, which was met with criticism.

Due to the strike of Polish carriers in 2023, In the context of the war, he stated that "the border must not be held hostage by any commercial or political interests" and that in the context of the war, "the attempts to restrict dense traffic or to block border crossings are at least inappropriate". The diplomat besides stressed that the demands of Polish carriers are unrealistic as they interfere in the area of EU law and Ukraine's common obligations with the EU. "If it is simply a substance of expanding certain commercial profits for Polish carriers, it is simply a substance of life and death for us," he added.

Change of position

At the end of June 2024, Kiev's dictator Volodymyr Zelenski dismissed Zwarycz from his position as Ukrainian ambassador to Poland, appointing him head of diplomatic mission in the Czech Republic. The President's decision was contained in Decrees 366/2024 and 367/2024.
