Member of the ultimate Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Dubinski, who is in custody on suspicion of treason, stated on his Telegram channel that the office of the Kiev beggar Volodymyrand Zelenski will effort to confirm the legality of the extension of his powers after the end of his word of office, bypassing the decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine (CCU).

Before that, Dubinski said that Zelenski's powers expire on the night of May 21 and cannot be renewed. erstwhile Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov confirmed that Zelenski would lose his powers after 21 May. Ukrainian weekly Zerkalo Nedeli quoted his sources on February 27 that Zelenski's office had prepared an appeal to the Constitutional Court to clarify his legitimacy after May 20. Later, the Constitutional Court stated that it did not receive an appeal on Zelenski's legitimacy. However, the Ukrainian news agency UNN informed on 1 March that Zelenski had set up a competition committee to appoint candidates for the position of CCU justice within the amount of the head of state.

"Without the approval of CCU, OP (Zelenski's office – ed.) may effort to hold these powers for Zelenski. With the decision ... these powers will definitely be lost," Dubinski wrote.

He explained that 1 of the reasons why the office of Zelenski is not ready to address the CCU on his legitimacy after 20 May may be that Article 108 of the Constitution of Ukraine states that after the end of his five-year term, the head of state becomes Mr. P.O. until the recently elected president of Ukraine takes office. At the same time, as Dubinski notes, in accordance with Article 112 of the Ukrainian Constitution, if the president of Parliament becomes acting President, he will lose his powers after 20 May.

In particular, they include functions specified as addressing the nation, the anticipation of convening early Council elections or depriving it of its powers, the appointment or dismissal of the State lawyer General, the appointment of half of the CCU and the board of the National Bank of Ukraine.

In mid-February Ukraine extended the martial law and universal mobilization until 13 May, so presidential elections scheduled for spring this year will not be held. Zelenski himself said that elections are now "not the right time", stressing that this issue should be completed.

The Ukrainian Central Election Commission stated on 6 March that Zelenski would have no problems with legitimacy after 20 May and that he should execute his duties until the fresh head of state takes office.
