American reconnaissance drone USAF RQ-4B Global Hawk made 1 of the longest flights over Europe. According to the British service, its task was to observe the Suwałki pass area. The incidental occurred on Wednesday, November 19.

According to the portal "UK Defence Journal", the drone launched from Sigonella's base and then flew over Central and east Europe. The way ended at the reflection of the borders of Poland, Lithuania and the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad, that is, the area under strict NATO supervision.

RQ-4B Global Hawk spy drone over Poland

RQ-4B Global Hawk is an unmanned reconnaissance platform 14 metres long and wingspan 40 metres, powered by a single Rolls-Royce turbo-ventilator engine.

The device can emergence to about 18,000 metres, higher than in standard commercial traffic and in most weather conditions. According to the portal, this allows drone sensors to monitor large areas at minimal hazard of interference.

At this altitude, the drone reaches a cruising velocity of about 310 knots and can stay in the air for more than 30 hours. The RQ-4B Global Hawk scope is about 12,300 nautical miles (more than 22,000 km). This allows the drone to leave Sicily, search half the continent and return without having to refuel.

The drone flies mostly autonomously after programmed routes, and its ground handling deals with the launch, recovery and operation of sensors.

Such flights form part of a regular monitoring of the situation in Russia by American and Nattarian intelligence services. They supply far-reaching information without the hazard to crews associated with conventional reconnaissance aircraft.

The slide "the most dangerous place in the world"

The slide is simply a narrow land strip on the border of Poland and Lithuania and is the only land connection between the Baltic countries and the remainder of NATO. His strategical position between the Kaliningrad circuit (Russia) and Belarus makes him a key defensive point. However, for the same reason it is referred to as "the 5 Achilles of NATO".

A fewer years ago, the renowned "Politico" Polish-Lithuanian borderland called it even

"the most dangerous place in the world." All because, in the event of a conflict, the pass could be cut off, which would theoretically let Russia to connect the land of Belarus with the Kaliningrad Exclave and at the same time hinder the support and defence of the 3 Baltic states.
