You want to fly a drone, but you don't know if you gotta registry it? We explain step by step what an unmanned registration looks like, where to do it, and erstwhile a flight is required. Avoid problems and get to know current regulations.
Drone Registration — How and Where? What do you request to report?
Drones have become an integral part of the planet of modern technology – they are not only toys but besides tools for work or simply costly hobbies. Before you start flying, you request to know the rules for registering and reporting flights. Otherwise, you may be exposed to unnecessary problems.
Drone registration – erstwhile is it mandatory?
Contrary to appearances, not all drone requires registration. If your device weighs little than 250 grams and has no camera or another sensors capable of collecting individual data – you can fly without any formalities. Exceptions are drones which comply with the alleged Toy Directive (2009/48/EC) - they are besides exempt from registration even if they have a camera.
However, if your drone is heavier or has a camera, you must registry as an operator. But calm – it's not complicated. The full process takes place online, is free and adequate to do it erstwhile – no substance how many drones you have. Registration is available on the website Drony.gov.pl.
How's the drone operator registration going?
Registration of the operator is easy. All you gotta do is enter this page, make an account and fill in the essential data. After registration you will receive a unique operator number, which you must put on the drone. It is crucial that the number is durable, legible and visible during the check – it is best to stick it or compose it somewhere on the hull. If you have a very tiny drone, you can place a number inside the battery chamber, provided you can easy look into it.
After the registration is completed, it is worth to undergo mandatory online training immediately. In the ‘open’ category, the A1/A3 course is required and your pilot profile will then become ‘approved’. Without this training, registration will not be full completed.
Do you gotta study all flight?
This is where things get interesting. According to current regulations, each flight of BSP (Unmanned Air Ship) in the Polish airspace requires notification to the Polish Air Navigation Agency (PAŻP). The notification is made utilizing a peculiar electronic strategy and should be made before the drone takes off.
Sounds complicated? Fortunately, it is not as burdensome as it may seem. The PAŻP strategy allows you to rapidly and conveniently submit online applications, and in most cases only a fewer clicks are needed. Everything can be done from a mobile application DroneTower. If you are planning frequent flights, it is worth exploring this process to avoid possible problems.
What about insurance?
The work to acquisition OC insurance concerns drone operators weighing more than 20 kg. Insurance is optional for lighter machines, but it is worth considering. Collision with another drone, harm to the car or – worse – injury to a passerby can cost a lot. ULC recommends that all drone operator has an OC policy, even if the law does not require it.
What if I borrow a drone?
If you lend a drone to a friend for a while, you don't gotta change your operator number. Remember, however, that you – as the owner – are inactive liable for everything that happens during the flight. If your friend does anything against the rules, you can be the 1 to endure the consequences. So it's better to think about who you entrust your equipment to.
Flying a drone in Poland as a foreigner
If you live outside the EU and want to fly a drone in Poland, the first step is to registry the operator on the Drony.gov.pl website. You request to get an operator number, get training, and mark your drone according to the regulations, as we described earlier. But if you want to fly a drone outside the EU, you gotta check your country's local rules – the rules may vary significantly.
Stairs begin over 250 grams
Registration of drones in Poland is mandatory for most users, but the process itself is not complicated. If your equipment weighs little than 250 g and there is no camera – you can fly without unnecessary formalities. In another cases, free registration of the operator on drones.gov.pl is sufficient. Do not forget that all flight should be reported to PAŻP, and although OC insurance is not mandatory, it is worth reasoning about.
