In Italian South Tyrol, there was a real fuel madness. On a self-service station in Avelengo, a liter of diesel cost only 19.9 eurocent alternatively of almost 2 euro. Effect? Crowds of drivers, long queues and canisters filled to the last drop.
The information about the absurdly low price rapidly ran around Bolzano. The drivers went to the station like they were winning the lottery, and the chaos continued until the fuel supply was exhausted.
As it turned out, behind the “promotion” was a simple mistake of the system, which occurred during the distant update in the headquarters: 0.199 euros were entered alternatively of 1.999.
The owner's losses were estimated at around EUR 10 000. Despite monitoring, customers will not endure any consequences due to the fact that they bought fuel at a price that was seen on dust – they did not break the law.
