Deputy Minister of wellness under the microscope. A scandal around habilitation

Deputy Minister of wellness Marek Kos claims that he qualified more than 200 people with tummy cancer for research, which became the basis for giving him habilitation. Meanwhile, the clinic where he was expected to receive patients had only a twelve specified patients at the time – writes Friday "GW".


“(...) erstwhile Marek Kos became Deputy Minister, his technological career gained incredible momentum. The PubMed database previously had only a fewer scored publications, which he co-authored, the earliest of 2002. As of mid-2024, there were 10 of them. Their subject substance is highly diverse. It is about the impact of telemedicine on the quality of life of patients with chronic heart failure, the relation between periodontalitis and haematologic diseases, and even about how treatment in the hyperbaric chamber affects liver cells in rats," writes Friday "Gazeta Wyborcza".

The paper assessed that "the most crucial were, however, immunology works". This work of the Deputy Minister of wellness indicated in his application for a habilitated doctorate, which "slightly a fewer days after the last of the articles on these receptors was published, he submitted through the Council of technological Excellence at the Medical University of Lublin".

"The proposal is dated 19 November 2024. The technological Excellence Council examined it very rapidly and already appointed reviewers on 3 December. These besides rushed to compose a review. While others are waiting for a habilitation colloquium mostly 6 to 12 months, Marek Kos had it already on 11 February. Just 2 days later, the Medical discipline Board of the Medical University of Lublin decided to give Mark Kos a habilitated doctorate" - informs “GW”. (PAP)
