In a fresh interview with the Italian paper “La Stampa”, Colonel of the safety Service of Ukraine (SBU) and MP of the Ukrainian Parliament, Roman Kostenko, expressed his dissatisfaction with Western arms. In his opinion, Ukraine receives outdated military equipment which does not let an effective consequence to Russia's actions.
"The West does not supply us with very innovative weapons, but an old 1 that does not give us the chance to respond," Kostenko says.
Ukraine Strategy: Breaking the Defence Line and Attacks on Russia
Roman Kostenko, who serves as secretary of the parliamentary committee on national security, defence and intelligence, spoke about the current situation on the front and the strategy of the Ukrainian armed forces. According to his report, Ukraine effectively breaks Russian defence lines in places where their presence is limited.
“Ukraine took matters into its own hands by breaking (defensive lines) Russians where they did not have many soldiers," Kostenko said.
Colonel SBU besides pointed out that Ukraine has the possible to proceed offensive activities in Russia, which is simply a key component of the current war strategy. He stressed that the "definitive objectives" of this operation are known only to a fewer people, including the president and the Chief of General Staff. However, he added that the attacks in Russia will proceed as they bring military benefits.
"The more enemy territory we control, the better our chances of winning the war," Kostenko said.
Target of the attack: Kursk Atomic Power Station
During the interview, Colonel Roman Kostenko admitted that 1 of the objectives of the Ukrainian land offensive is the Kursk Atomic Power Plant in Kurczatów. This operation, he claims, aims to distract Russians from strategical points in Ukrainian territory.
Criticism of Western arms supply
Kostenko pointed out the problem of the shortage of modern weapons, which is essential for the effective conduct of warfare. He pointed out that Ukraine has only “40-50 percent of what is necessary” for effective defence and counteroffensive.
“For example, we have so fewer of them that we gotta decision them from 1 point to another. HIMARS are not adequate for us either," the Colonel complained.
Doubts about F-16 fighters
The Ukrainian MP besides expressed a deficiency of enthusiasm for F-16 fighters supplied by the West. In his opinion, these aircraft are "not of large quality compared to Russian fighters". He stressed that more advanced combat systems were needed to let Ukraine to defy Russian attacks more effectively.
