In 2024, the police deported a full of 2458 persons residing illegally in Norway. This group included 236 erstwhile asylum seekers who were yet denied residence rights.

Deportations from Norway – more than 2,400 people expelled
This is an increase of 26 people in this category compared to 2023 data, erstwhile the police carried out a full of 2338 deportations.
– We are pleased that the police managed to deport more people in 2024 than in 2023, especially in the case of erstwhile asylum applicants with final refusals," said the head of the PU unit (Police for Foreigners) Arne Jørgen Olafsen.

Last year, police deported 737 people who had 1 or more crimes on their account, compared with 641 people in 2023. This represented 30% of all deportations in 2024, compared with 27% in 2023.

He added that police insist on ensuring that convicted persons receive expulsion decisions and are deported.

– The expulsion decision shall entail a ban on entry into Norway or the full Schengen area for a limited period of time, which shall reduce the hazard of their return and subsequent offences.
Enhanced cooperation with Frontex
Last year 26 people were deported by charter flights from Norway. Of these, 13 were expelled through cooperation with Frontex. This represents a crucial increase compared to 2023, erstwhile only 4 out of 30 people were deported under European cooperation.
