During the 13th Irresponsible Conference, held under the slogan "How much does freedom cost?", held on 23 April 2026, 1 of the key points of the program was to talk to Anne Applebaum. A prominent historian, writer and Pulitzer Prize winner, in dialog with Grzegorz Nawrocki, presented a multidimensional analysis of the challenges facing modern democratic systems.
During this exchange, Applebaum focused on the mechanisms of alleged ‘new authoritarianism’. She pointed out that today's threats to freedom are frequently not violent, but are due to the slow erosion of institutions, social polarisation and the impact of technology on public debate. This look allowed us to place local considerations on ethics and work in a broader global geopolitical context.
