"The European Commission has presented a plan to strengthen Europe's security. Brussels does not intend to replace NATO, but in the face of the threat from Russia and the uncertainty surrounding Donald Trump's statements it wants the European component of the alliance to be stronger. Ursula von der Leyen stressed the request to invest in defence and adopt a proactive approach. The plan includes coordination of military spending, joint purchases and loans for arms investments, which could bring €800 billion in defence investment to the EU. The White Defence Paper besides includes the Polish initiative Shield East.”
