The talks about Ukraine's transfer of 4 Polish MiG-29 fighters continue. Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Vasil Bodnar indicates that the blockades are financial and technical, not political. Poland needs to aid the affected neighbour, but any decision regarding the last machines should defend our aviation capabilities and taxpayers' money.
Talks about 4 aircraft
Ukraine's Ambassador to Poland Vasil Bodnar informed in an interview with the “European Truth” portal that negotiations were inactive underway for 4 Polish MiG-29 fighters. As reported by [Gazeta.pl](https://news.gazeta.pl/politics/7,197990,32955568,polskie-mig-i-dla-ukrainy-ambassador-mowie-o-key-issue.html), the diplomat considered financial and method issues as major obstacles. According to him, the problem is not political.
This information organizes a public discussion. Political agreement doesn't end the full operation. The transfer of a combat aircraft requires device preparation, method conditions and cost security. Each of these elements affects the word and actual utility of equipment on the Ukrainian side.
MiG-29 in the Realities of War
MiG-29 is simply a construction known to Ukrainian aviation. It matters due to the fact that military equipment means training personnel, ground handling and availability of parts. The aircraft without method facilities remains an costly hull. Therefore, the method website of the talks cannot be treated as a bureaucratic addition.
Ukraine defends itself against Russian aggression and needs measures to keep its ability to operate in the air. Kiev's support is besides in Poland's interest due to the fact that it binds Russian forces distant from our borders. However, this strategical reason does not exempt Warsaw from the work to calculate its own defence capabilities.
Polish aid must have conditions
The government should clearly answer who will cover the costs of preparing 4 machines and the impact of their transfer on Polish aviation. There is besides a request for clear information as to whether the operation involves filling in deficiencies, additional allied benefits or another forms of compensation. Without this data, the public receives only a general message on ongoing discussions.
Military aid must not be carried out under motion pressure. It should consequence from a cold calculation: what effect Ukraine will achieve, what costs Poland will bear and whether our defence strategy will keep the required readiness. Tough conditions are not a deficiency of solidarity. They are the work of the state towards their own citizens and soldiers.
Liability on both sides
Ambassador Bodnar's words show that the dispute is not about the will to support itself. There are circumstantial barriers to the solution. It is simply a good time to decision distant from political declarations and present to the public a possible timetable, backing and method rules for operations, of course without revealing delicate information.
Poland has the right to require that aid be agreed with allies and not weaken the protection of our sky. Ukraine has the right to search equipment that it can usage in defence. These interests can be reconciled if the decision is prepared professionally. The safety of Polish citizens, the credibility of the state and the effectiveness of aid for the country fighting Russia are at stake.
