A Breakthrough Man

– I am highly arrogant that specified a large character as prof. Andrzej Stelmachowski was part of the University of Warsaw. He was not only an intelligent and educated man, but above all a wise man. He was able to connect people, he could perceive and advise on correct solutions – said Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, during the celebration of the 100th birthday of prof. Andrzej Stelmachowski, an outstanding lawyer, the talker of the legislature of Poland. The University of Warsaw is co-organizer of the Jubilee celebrations.

Prof. Andrzej Stelmachowski (1925–2009) specialized in civilian and agricultural law. He has been associated with the University of Warsaw since the 1940s, initially as a student of the underground university, later as a lecturer – with breaks – for almost 50 years. Prof. Stelmachowski created a unique agricultural law school at the University of Warsaw, whose students are present experts in agraristics related to many Polish technological centres.

He belonged to the authors and participants of the circular Table. In the 1989 election, he obtained the mandate of Senator of the Republic of Poland and assumed the position of Marshal of the Senate. He served as Minister of National Education from 1991 to 1993. From 2007 to 2009 he was an advisor to the president of Poland. He was decorated with the Order of the White Eagle. During the business he belonged to the Home Army.

The Wisdom of the Professor

On 29 January in the legislature of the Republic of Poland, the anniversary ceremonies were held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of prof. Stelmachowski, co-organised by the University of Warsaw.

– It is simply a large honor for the Rector of the University of Warsaw to say a fewer sentences about prof. Andrzej Stelmachowski. We are arrogant that specified a character was associated with our college. The prof. I knew as a young student had 3 large loves. The first was family. The second – students and universities in which he worked. And the 3rd was the legislature of Poland and the full Republic of Poland – said Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, adding: – Prof. Stelmachowski was not only an intelligent and educated man, but above all a wise man, he was able to connect people and make good. He was able to listen, analyze, and give accurate suggestions. He was a large prof. of the University of Warsaw. He sought the truth, respected people, was tolerant and open. He left a large group of students and this is the most beautiful legacy of the Professor.

During the ceremony in the Polish Senate, the philatelist value commemorating the activities of Marshal Stelmachowski was presented, containing a reproduction of the image of the oil brush by Krzysztof Annusewicz.

The event was attended by Andrzej Jan Wielowieyski, Deputy Marshal of the legislature Rafał Grupiński, Head of the Chancellery of the legislature Ewa Polkowska, Rector of the University of Warsaw for Doctoral and Legal Affairs Prof. Adam Niewiański, president of the Polish Post Sebastian Mikosz, parliamentarians, researchers and the professor's family.

Memory at the University of Warsaw

The University of Warsaw organised a conference commemorating the technological achievements and activities of prof. Andrzej Stelmachowski "Law and Politics. On the 100th anniversary of the birth of prof. Andrzej Stelmachowski". It is held on 30 January at the legislature Hall of the University of Warsaw on the campus of the university in Krakowskie Przedmieście. It is organized under the honorary patronage of Marshal of the legislature of the Republic of Poland Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska.
