One of the most interesting examples of effective Ukrainian opposition in the first phase of the Russian invasion was the defence of Chernihov located to the north-east of Kiev. Under this peripheral city, Ukrainian forces, whose core was the elite 1st "Siwerska" of the Armoured Brigade, managed to halt the march of part of the hostile group to the capital of Ukraine from the east.
