PiS Vice-President Przemysław Czarnek requested at the Dorohusk-Ja hours of blocking imports of agri-food products from Ukraine. According to Radio Maryja the politician talked about flooding the Polish market. The stakes are specific: buying-in prices, food safety and protection of household farms from unfair competition.

Border request

Przemysław Czarnek, Vice president of Law and Justice, demanded that imports of agri-food products from Ukraine be blocked. As reported Radio Maryja, the politician spoke about it during a press conference at the border crossing Dorohusk-Ja hours and presented data on the scale of the influx of Ukrainian products into the Polish market.

The place wasn't random. Dorohusk-Ja hours is simply a road crossing on the border with Ukraine, located on the DK12 route, and according to the Lublin Border Service Board, the check-in is carried out primarily in relation to dense traffic and temporary regular bus connections. It is there that it is best to see that agricultural trade is not an abstract column in the sheet. These are real transports, real controls and real force on the Polish market.

The agricultural marketplace is simply a national interest

A dispute over imports from Ukraine must be set honestly. Ukraine fights Russian aggression and Poland has an interest in Moscow not winning this war. But assistance to the neighbour must not mean consent to deregulation of the Polish village. National realism is precisely this: to help, where it serves the safety of Poland, and to powerfully defend their farmers where they are hit by an ill-set commercial policy.

Polish food is 1 of the strongest branches of our economy. The NAC stated that 2025, agri-food exports reached EUR 58.4 billionand the affirmative balance of trade amounted to EUR 19.8 billion. That's not a margin. It is national capital, jobs, taxes in Poland and stableness of hundreds of thousands of families.

Lesson of Ukrainian Grains

Experience from 2022-2023 should end naivety erstwhile and for all. The ultimate Chamber of Control indicated in the study on imports of cereals and rape from Ukrainethat imports of wheat from Ukraine to Poland increased from 3.1 1000 tonnes in 2021 to about 523,000 tonnes in 2022, and imports of maize from 6.2 1000 tonnes to 1 854 1000 tonnes. NIK besides wrote about 4.3 million tons of cereals and oil plants imported by 541 companies in 16 months.

These were numbers that translated into supplies, prices and protests. Therefore, all request for marketplace protection present must be assessed not by the organization label, but by the experience of the Polish village. The farmer does not compete with the press conference. It competes with goods that enter the marketplace at another production costs, another backrooms and another scales.

Embargo exists, but the question is, is it enough?

After the grain crisis Poland introduced restrictions. Regulation of the Minister of improvement and Technology of 15 September 2023 on the prohibition of imports of agricultural products from Ukraine is available in Journal Act under heading 1898. It concerns selected products, including the most crucial cereals and oilseeds and parts of processed products.

Therefore, the point of the dispute is different from the simple slogan “ban or no ban”. The question is whether the current safety features include a sufficiently broad catalogue of goods and whether the State can effectively control the real turnover. With agri-food import, the gateways in regulations rapidly become a gateway. The costs are borne by the village, not by an authoritative in Warsaw or a commissioner in Brussels.

In this context, it is worth recalling our earlier thesis that relations with Ukraine must be based on reciprocity. Reciprocity is not hostility. It is simply a average rule between countries that want to prosecute a serious policy.

Brussels should not decide for the Polish village

The worst script is that the Polish farmer is alone between inexpensive imports, climate requirements, energy costs and decisions taken far from the farm. Brussels likes to talk about solidarity, but the bill is very frequently addressed to circumstantial people: cereal producers, farmers, processors and families surviving from the ground.

The Polish right hand has a work to talk clearly. Food sovereignty is part of national security. A country that loses control of its own agricultural marketplace becomes dependent on another people's decisions and crises. Realism is needed in east affairs, not sentimental automation. This is besides well seen in disputes about politics towards Kiev, where Poland cannot be played.

Protection of the marketplace without propaganda

We besides request to keep precision. The problem is not Ukrainians as humans. The problem is the trade policy, which can shift the costs of war and marketplace liberalisation to Polish producers. If the goods meet standards, are subject to control and do not destruct the local market, the State may trade. If the influx destabilizes prices and pushes Polish farmers, the state has a work to react.

Therefore, the negro's request will be politically sharp, but it is not detached from the facts. After a grain experience, no 1 liable should say to the Polish village: “It will happen.” Farm portfolios, acquisition prices, food safety and the ability of the State to defend its own marketplace are at stake. Poland can aid Ukraine. It must not be sacrificed to Polish farmers on the altar of another people's comfort and Brussels schemes.
