The Cyber Legion program has already included 2,000 specialists – 5 times more than originally assumed. Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced this success on Monday during a conference inaugurating cooperation between the military and the AGHA in Krakow.
Cyber Legion is simply a platform that combines the military and civilian environment in cybersecurity. «What is Cyber Legion? This is an invitation to cooperate with all the most prominent specialists in the field of digital, modern technologies, computer science, but besides artificial intelligence to cooperate regular with the Polish Army Command of the Cyberspace defence Component”, explained the head of the MON. At the beginning of the program, 400 people were planned to be reported in a fewer months.
“Thank you all very much, due to the fact that we already have 2,000 people”, Kosiniak-Kamish said. The vast majority of candidates were successfully verified in terms of their ability to defend the State. “This verification, so that no 1 is afraid here (...), is very professionally conducted and 99 percent comes out as planned”, added the minister.
The increasing Threat of Cyberattacks
Kosiniak-Kamish warned against expanding threats in cyberspace. «You are very much needed in Poland present (...). Regardless of how the situation in Ukraine ended, the situation for Poland will not change. In fact, I will say, on the contrary to stableness in Ukraine – a threat to Poland, especially in the area of cyberspace, due to the fact that the Adversary will have more strength and means to direct them here, it can be more difficult”, he said.
According to the Minister there are hundreds of thousands of cyber attacks on critical infrastructure and the State Treasury companies all day. He announced further improvement of the programme and state investments. Participants will be able to number on various trainings.
The head of the MON stressed that Polish cybermilitary “is absolutely a leader, is in the lead, is best rated by allies, by the North Atlantic Alliance and by our strategical allies from the United States”.
The military and the college join forces
Major General Karol Molenda, commander of the Cyberspace defence Army, addressed the participants: «Together we are building the cyber resilience of our country. Remember, being in the Cyber Legion is not a duty. It is simply a privilege». He pointed out that cyberspace changes all day and that defence capabilities request to be built on an ongoing basis.
«I am convinced that if we do this with consistency and determination, we will not only respond to threats. We'll be ahead of them. And possibly we will act so that our opponents will be afraid to attack or log in," General Molenda said.
Rector of AGH, prof. Jerzy Lis, stressed the importance of the initiative: «The thought of the Cyber Legion is simply a fresh beginning and a fresh ecosystem to service our safety (...). ... I am glad and thank you for inviting AGH to this initiative».
