Two Nepali hydropower workers can talk about actual happiness. During the disastrous flood that struck Nepal, men were trapped in a flooded tunnel. The paramedics only managed to scope them after 9 days – they were saved.
Two workers were trapped on August 26 in the Trishuli 3A power tunnel on the Trishuli River, about 70 km from Kathmandu. The rescue operation was successful on Friday. 1 of the men the paramedics took out of the tunnel on a stretcher. Both survivors were treated by doctors.
Nepalese crisis services estimation that about 900 people have been reported missing in 12 hydroelectric facilities, of which almost 500 may be trapped underground.
According to the latest data, 1,259 people were killed as a consequence of the flood, and over 5,000 were reported missing. On the Tibetan side of the border, 21 deaths were confirmed and 541 people were inactive wanted. The resin besides brought immense material losses: in Nepal, it was estimated at about $2.5 billion. Reconstruction or repair requires about 20,000 homes, and the first safety work is expected to cost over 52 million dollars.
