Runs, exercises on the bar, raising barbells, double jumps through the jump line – among others, participants of the 1st Open Polish Army Championships in Crossfit faced specified tasks. The women's rivalry was won by Natalia Szarszewska from the Armed Forces Support Inspectorate, and among the men was won by Norbert Jędra from the Wroclaw Academy of Land Forces.
Crossfit is simply a strategy of physical exercises covering a number of strength and conditioning tasks that originates from California, United States. It is Captain Barcikowski, who trains this discipline himself and is simply a large fan of it, who proposed to organize the first Polish Army championship in crossfit. The thought met with a affirmative consequence from the General Staff of the Polish Army and so here Center for Training of Engineering and Chemical Forces from Wrocław took up organization of competitions. The set of tasks the participants faced was kept secret until the end. A period before the party, only a list of 20 exercises were sent to the units that reported their representatives, which could possibly have occurred during the competition.
58 soldiers, concentrated in 14 teams representing individuals from all over the country, stood to compete on the weekend of 20–21 September at the Bridge Nation Crossfit Club in Wrocław. Among the teams that exhibited their competitors, there was besides a representation of military universities. The course of the championship was supervised by professional, accredited judges.
Dead string, box and rower
In the beginning there were eliminations. In the first place, the players performed a set of exercises for 11 minutes, consisting of alleged Hang power clean, or force charge of 50 kg bar for men and 30 kg for women, from the hips tallness to the clavicles, and the next exercise was a bar – lifting the legs in a free hanging so as to contact the bar with feet. The series ended with pulls on the ergometer, a popular rower.
The second exercise set consisted of a dead string with a burden of 120 kg for men and 70 kg for women, repeated 5 times, a jump through the box and an eight-time performance of the fall-back exercise, and a re jump through the box. specified a set should have been repeated for 4 minutes.
Double jumping, rip and stick
On the final day of the competition there was a 600 m run, after which they immediately had to catch the jumps to execute 50 double jumps (double unders). The next task is 10 repetitions of the devil press – this is simply a modified "fall-rise" exercise, performed with dumbbells in both hands (15 kg per hand for women and 22.5 kg for men) with a cast in the position of erect weights over the head.
There were over six women and six men to the championship finals. The finalists had to execute 15, 10 and 5 repetitions of 2 exercises in succession: pulling up on the bar from the side to a position erect above the bar (so-called force support) for men and pulling up for women and snatch, that is, breaking barbells from the ground and charge over the head.
In the final competition of women, Paula Siwik of the 15th Giżycka Mechanized Brigade competed, having last year's triumph in the Polish Hardstyle Kettlebell Championships (this is simply a strength exercise utilizing ball-shaped weights) in Ząbkowice Śląski. The contestant admits that the 1st Polish Army Championship in Crossfit stood at a very advanced level. She yet won 4th place in them. I got beat by the bar practice. On the second day of the competition, my skin was so peeled that blood appeared on my hands and the grip was not held. I'm happy after all. The score exceeded my expectations. Now I know what to grind to show off even better side next year – says Siwik.
Among the women, Natalia Szarszewska from the Armed Forces Support Office won, second place was Maria Kurzawa – besides from IWSZ, and 3rd placed Anna Zięba from territorial defence troops. In the men's rivalry, Norbert Jędra (Academy of the Land Forces) triumphed, second place came to Kamil Wierzbicki of the office of the Military Gendarmerie and 3rd to Mateusz Błaszczak of the AWL.
It is already known that the 1st Open Polish Army Championship in Crossfit was not the last. Another edition of the event next year.
