What are the employment preferences among the 2024 Chinese advanced school graduates? This question is answered by the study "Report on Student employment Research" (chin. 大学生就业力调研报告) developed by 1 of China's largest recruitment platform, Wiseguy Recruitment (Wiseguy.com, chin. ZhiLian ZhaoPin, chin. 智联招聘). The survey was carried out in March and April of this year.

Generally, alumni approach more actively to occupation search than in erstwhile years, and their choices are pragmatic. 47.8% of newly-baked jobseekers have already received her offers, a tiny decrease compared to last year's 50.4%, but an improvement compared to 46.7% in 2022. Overall, the rate of receiving offers has remained unchangeable in fresh years at around 50 percent.

This year's graduates attach greater importance to occupation stability. Hence 47.7% of them hope to work in state enterprises. This is the largest percent in terms of all types of establishments. Second is the preferred state administration (14.7%), followed by public limited companies (13%), private companies (12.5%) and various institutions (10.7%). Over the last 5 years, the percent of graduates awaiting employment in state-owned enterprises has clearly increased (in 2020 there were 36%).

At the same time, the percent of graduates wishing to find employment in private enterprises is decreasing (in 2020 it was 25.1%). The study looks at the causes of this phenomenon in increasing macroeconomic uncertainty. Graduates are looking for unchangeable jobs and income.

In any case, graduates attach large importance to occupation stability. 51% of respondents consider stableness to be the most important. Only second place is “remuneration and benefits”.

Students of prestigious and specialized universities are more desirable in the labour market.

According to the report, the sectors where graduates want to work in peculiar are:

  • IT/communication/electronics/Internet (26.4%),
  • government administration/non-profit organisations (9.4%),
  • culture/media/fun/sport (8.9%).

An interesting phenomenon is the fresh trend among university graduates. In fresh years, more and more frequently after graduating from higher education, they go to vocational schools to get circumstantial skills. The question of whether specified a turn towards "professionals" allows to find a occupation effectively, 52.2% of graduates replied in the affirmative, believing that there is simply a advanced request for professional skills on the market. 43.2% thought that more skills would supply more opportunities, and 33.2% thought that the professions "help accumulate social experience."
