GDP up

The State Statistical Office (国家统计局) after careful analysis and revision of the data corrected the growth rate (GDP) for 2021, taking into account inflation, by 0.3% raising the final reading to 8.4% growth in the year-to-year (r/r).

It turned out that in sectors specified as production, transport, hoteling or restaurants, growth rates were faster than initially calculated. Unfortunately, this year's consequence is unrepeatable.

During the first 3 quarters of this year, China's economy only developed by 3.0% (r/r). There is no way to accomplish the expected increase of 5.5% per year (r/r).

The profits are falling

From January to November this year, the average profits of Chinese companies decreased by 3.6% (r/r).

The profits of private companies (by 7.9% y/y) and abroad companies (by 7.8% y/y) fell the most.

Record mining

The largest Chinese natural gas deposits ChangQing (chin. 长庆) delivered this year 50.06 billion m3 of this natural material. For the first time, extraction from this origin exceeded 50 billion m3. That's 7.6% more y/y. regular extraction of this deposit is about 160 million m3.

Without quarantine

The State wellness Commission (chin. 国家卫生健康委员会) announces further delays in covid epidemiological restrictions. This time on the border.

As of January 8, 2023, the quarantine work for persons arriving from abroad is lifted. China is gradually beginning up to the world, after almost 3 years of strict "zero covid" policy. With the beginning of January, persons returning or arriving in China will no longer gotta undergo quarantine in hotels intended for this purpose. In Hong Kong, as of December 29th, there will cease to be any covid warnings for those coming to this metropolis.

Fight against plastic mesh

The authorities of the Hong Kong peculiar Administrative Region have introduced an optimised charging plan for plastic buying bags from 31 December 2022. It provides, inter alia, for:

  • increase the purse fee from 0,50 HKD (approx. 0.28 PLN) to 1,00 HKD (approx. 0.56 PLN);
  • prohibition on the presentation of free plastic bags for frozen foods;
  • reduce the number of plastic bags to 1 in case of acquisition of unpackaged products, or only in parts contained in any package.

Extended Military Service

Mrs Tsai Yng-Wen 蔡英文, president of Taiwan announced a decree that from 1 January 2024 compulsory military service is extended from 4 months to twelve. This work will include all conscripts born after 1 January 2005.

The Taiwanese government simultaneously raised monthly draft salaries from $6510, Taiwanese (about PLN 931) to $26,307 Taiwanese (about PLN 3765).

From 1949 to 2000, all men surviving in Taiwan who were over 18 years of age were subject to a military service (as in the PRL) of 24 to 36 months. In 2008, essential service was reduced to 12 months. This period was reduced to 4 months in 2008.
