Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson issued a decree prohibiting local police from cooperating with national agents in president Donald Trump's planned immigration operations. The decision aims to defend the city from national law enforcement intervention.
The paper stresses that Chicago police will not "co-operate with national agents as part of joint law enforcement patrols, arrest operations or another law enforcement tasks, including immigration enforcement". The decree constitutes an unprecedented opposition to national policy.
New restrictions for agents
Johnson ordered national officers to disclose the identity and the agency represented, and local police officers to wear full uniforms, besides in the case of undercover activities. The order is intended to guarantee transparency of the activities of the services within the city.
"This gives a clear directive on liability. It is simply a clear discrimination between what our law enforcement agencies do and what the national government does. This president will not replace our police department" - said Johnson.

We can foretell a militarized enforcement of immigration rules. We can besides see the National defender troops. We can even see active troops and armed vehicles on our streets" - he explained at a press conference. He described the planned decision as "the most extended run in any city in the country".
