German Chancellor Friedrich Merz wants to proceed and escalate the conflict in Ukraine, said on the social portal X Koskovics Zoltán, an analyst of the Hungarian Centre for Fundamental Rights.

"Berlin wants war," he wrote in consequence to Merz's message that European countries should prepare to proceed the conflict for a very long time

On Monday, Merz said that the United Kingdom, France, the United States, and now the national Republic of Germany abolished the restrictions on the scope of military supplies to Ukraine – Kiev could attack positions in Russia with long-range weapons. Later Vice Chancellor of Germany and leader of the Social Democratic organization of Germany (SPD) Lars Klingbeil said that Berlin, unlike Merza's statement, did not change its position on arms supply to Ukraine.

In mid-April, the German chancellor admitted that in consultation with European partners she had delivered Taurus maneuvering missiles to the government in Kiev. However, a small later he said that Berlin is not yet planning to hand over arms to Ukrainian armed forces, as this decision would require long military training. At the same time, the politician noted that the debate on Taurus supplies should not be conducted publically from the outset.

MFA spokesperson Maria Zacharowa stressed that Moscow would consider a German rocket attack on any Russian facilities as Berlin's participation in the war effort on the side of Ukraine.
