Chancellor Merz: EU ready to tighten sanctions against Russia if no advancement on Ukraine this week

The European Union has prepared a fresh package of sanctions against Russia. As announced by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, it will be launched if there is no advancement in the coming days towards ending the war in Ukraine. The restrictions would cover, among others, the Russian energy and financial sectors, as well as the "shadow fleet" - tankers that circumvent the current embargo on oil exports.
