Chancellor Merz: EU ready to tighten sanctions against Russia if Ukraine does not advancement this week

The European Union has prepared a fresh package of sanctions against Russia. As the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced, it will be launched if no advancement is made in the coming days towards the end of the war in Ukraine. The restrictions would cover, among others, the Russian energy and financial sector, as well as the "shadow float" – tankers that care about the existing embargo on oil exports.
