In fresh days Mateusz Morawiecki, the erstwhile Prime Minister of Poland, has published a material on platform X, in which he warned against European Union plans to introduce censorship on social media. Morawiecki took on the function of advocate of freedom of speech in his speech, which was met with many criticisms, accusing him of hypocrisy and manipulating facts.
Freedom of speech at the mark of the EU?
In a video published on platform X Morawiecki stated:
"Do you know they want to introduce censorship on social media? specified signals flow from Brussels elites. specified signals besides come from the media that are favorable to them, as well as from any politicians."
Morawiecki defined social media as an "ocean of freedom" and emphasized the function of platforms specified as X or Facebook in providing information. He highlighted the freedom of speech policy introduced by Elon Musk on platform X and the revolution announced by Mark Zuckerberg in Meta's approach to censorship and fact-checking.
However, as noted, Morawiecki misses the truth. Facebook, yes, has changed its approach to content moderation, but these changes concern only the United States, not the European Union or the world.
Political EKR Declaration
In his speech Morawiecki announced that European Conservatives and Reformists (ECRs) would be "free speech champions". He powerfully opposed any effort to restrict freedom in the media and the Internet, stressing:
"The dispute and the right to it is the essence of democracy. A free and safe citizen is simply a well-informed citizen. No government, no politician, no authoritative may close their mouths to netizens.”
Morawiecki besides recalled Voltaire’s words:
“To find out who is in charge of you, just check who you are not allowed to criticize.”
According to the erstwhile Prime Minister, this fact is now more fresh than ever.
Hypocrisy on the mark of critics
Morawiecki's statements met with fierce criticism of public opinion and celebrated commentators. many comments remind that it was during his regulation that censorship was introduced on an unprecedented scale in Poland. Rafał Otoka-Frąckiewicz concluded in an ironic entry:
"Do you know that as Prime Minister I launched censorship on social media and the Internet? That I made lists of people whose statements were not in line with my policy? That at the beginning of the war in Ukraine I gave net censorship into the hands of global corporations?”

Professor Adam Wielomski was equally critical:
"In your time, the service illegally cut off access to opposition websites, including ultimate Time and Polish Thought. adequate of this disgusting hypocrisy.”

Wasiukiewicz added:
“The man whose government banned the assembly restricted freedom of expression, imposed censorship even through the service, imprisoned millions of people in home arrests, prohibited going to Mass, something there now says about the right to freedom and censorship that she is be.”

Summary
Although Mateusz Morawiecki is presently trying to present himself as a defender of freedom of speech, his actions to date and the policy of the government he led cast a shadow on these declarations. Critics emphasise that the rhetoric of the erstwhile Prime Minister is not only contradictory to facts, but besides hypocritical, which may undermine his credibility as a leader in the fight for freedom of speech in Europe. However, in a time of increasing tensions about the issue of social media content moderation, this issue requires honest and honest debate, not political slogans.
