In Radom – as in many Polish cities – there is the only residual and amorphous culture of social dialog on subjects applicable to the community. We are talking about a city where there was no presidential debate between the main candidates before the local elections! In specified a situation, I should not be amazed that the rulers of Radom have simply declared to me that I cannot usage public infrastructure, due to the fact that “questions” awaken my political activity as a individual serving in a national environment whose values “are not consistent with the values of relationship and cooperation with the Union of russian Socialist Republics” ... Come back. "They are not in line with the values of the European Union".
Well, it cannot be hidden that the Russian presence on our lands for the last 300 years – with tiny interruptions – has left a powerful mark on a large part of the Polish nation. This is especially evident in a certain, besides frequently occurring, circumstantial relation on the power-citizen line, a feeling of omnipotence in the erstwhile and far-reaching affluence in the latter. The free man – as I think – cannot accept something like this.
First things first. The beginning of the fresh Deal Club in Radom took place on June 26. Together with Damian Adamus, editor-in-chief of the fresh Deal, Piotr Ciompa of the fresh Citizen and Kamil Wons of the Jagiellonian Club, we discussed on the 48th anniversary of Radom's June 76' on labour and labour rights in the 21st century. any people came to perceive to us live, any connected online via net broadcast. In general, it was interesting, without any controversy or scandal. In 1 area were activists of the All-Polish Youth, National Movement or the Polish Socialist Party. There were organizers of pro-abortion and anti-abortion protests. And young and a small older, inactive socially active. What's more... everyone was culturally discussing with each other.
However, before the debate took place, 1 had to find a suitable room. Therefore, I contacted a local institution dedicated to supporting specified activities as described above – the Centre of Non-governmental Organizations located in the Deskurs Stonery in the Radom market.
Unfortunately, I asked for the main hall, which the vice president or president of the city must agree to. Well... I forgot that I don't live in a average country where certain decisions about citizens are not always made by the letter of law. In my naivety, I besides did not take into account that in the period before the local elections as a local writer I scored various pathologies of power in my beautiful city...
After all, the renovation of the Deskurs Stone was financed by the European Union. It's logical, isn't it?
I wrote the appeal. I pointed out that, in accordance with the constitutional values of the Republic of Poland, especially Article 54 of the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of expression and freedom of speech, the decision runs counter to the fundamental principles of a democratic regulation of law, in which the power should not scope situations where the authority arbitrarily decides who is “right” and who is not, especially in the context of freedom of assembly and freedom of speech.
I besides asked kindly to indicate the circumstantial legal provisions and the provisions of the Rules of Procedure which were the basis for this decision. As I stressed, only transparency in this area can guarantee that administrative decisions are taken in a fair and lawful manner.
I have besides noticed that refusing to usage the city hall due to the views or beliefs of the organizer is marked by discrimination. The Constitution of the Republic of Poland in Article 32 states that they are all equal before the law and have the right to equal treatment by public authorities. Discrimination for any reason, including belief, is forbidden. This prohibition is universal and covers all aspects of political, social and economical life.
I pointed out that the organiser and speakers conduct their activities in a legal, transparent and transparent manner, and subjective criticism should not be the basis for any decision by any representatives of the authority, in this case the local government authority.
And there was silence. Despite assurances that the appeal is pending. Despite a request sent with a mention to Law of 6 September 2001 on access to public information to send a full message of reasons for the decision taken and who is personally liable for its content. Political work is clear – it falls first of all on the leading work related to the activities of the Office of the Centre of Non-governmental Organizations Vice president Radom Marta Michalska-Wilk, as well as the city president Radom Radosław Witkowski (both connected with the Civic Coalition). Of course, the enquiry sent to Ms Michalska-Wilk's office was besides unanswered. It was not until late July that the threat of inaction concerning failure to supply public information was sent — naturally, to “get off”, so as not to answer the question...
The blood of a free man, uncontaminated with the homo sovieticus virus, against specified shoes and arrogance must boil. specified situations cannot simply be disposed of in silence. I'm a professional writer, so I have a chance to make it public. But what about the thousands of another inhabitants of Radom? What could they do in this situation? Go to the media, which pays besides much money to live well with the city authorities? Spend quite a few money on lawyers to get moral satisfaction? compose a complaint no 1 will read?
This is another manifestation of discrimination against the right and the removal of national views and environments, conservative from the debate – ideological censorship under the cloak of "repressive tolerance". The full situation is not amazing in the light of a number of technological studies.
In 2019 the Center for investigation on Prejudices of the University of Warsaw published a survey which shows that supporters of liberal and leftist groups have more negative feelings towards right-wing supporters, dehumanize them more frequently and have little assurance in them than vice versa. Interestingly, this was not the consequence of the government's policy at the time. The survey confirmed the conclusions of the studies carried out in 2014. So whether the right is in control or in opposition, its opponents have a worse attitude toward those with different views. Similarly, the investigation carried out after the Smolensk disaster turned out that opponents of the explanation about the assassination had a greater aversion towards supporters of this explanation than the another way around.
How can we read a loud article in our time Prejudiced as a Liberal, which was published in Rzeczpospolita, liberals and left-wingers are more negative towards right-wingers than right-wingers to all those groups to whom the attitude is to position them as homophobes, anti-Semites, Islamophobes, etc. “Let the conservatives frequently have a sense of moral superiority that people with more liberal views have. They see conservatives as backward, stupider, blinder," we read. Looking at “hate” as a product of the human community, which could be measured with any “hateometer”, the most people in Poland would yet produce the most people who grin (pretentiously, however), exhibit the most hearts and talk about love and tolerance.
Cancel culture according to 1 definition is simply a set of actions aimed at removing uncomfortable opinions from public space, any deviations from the cultural programme proposed by certain radical, ideologicalised groups (i.e. in the case of those radically smiling). This is simply a fresh form of censorship, which aims, inter alia, at removing from the public sphere the notions of "problematic" or "contrary to the values of the European Union", whatever they may be. As Prof. Marek Krajewski of the UAM in Poznań notes, "Cancel culture This is simply a pro-systemic reaction of those afraid by the democratisation of resources that have been guaranteed by monopolization until late by their hegemonic rule." Thus, the authority decides to “disregard” those who do not like and guarantee average functioning in the public space only “its” or “neutral”. In urban halls, there may be soapmaking workshops where politicians can laughter and take any good pictures, but you can't discuss key social problems. And I'm certain those we don't like can't discuss.
Here we are in full swing of the “freedom of word” and “lawfulness” which, after all, has late again reigned in our country... "Slogs, slogans, fact is man. Honor and rules removed from circulation" – sang the KSU band in a song from a prophetic disc Two Nations...
