Around 10 p.m. close Aalborg Airport, air services and police registered the presence of drones. All flights were halted and the airspace closed. Units were assigned to the site, which began intensive search for unmanned aircraft.
Paralysed air traffic in Denmark
North Jutland Police, which confirmed the incidental on platform X, did not give details of the kind or number of drones. It is only known that the situation was considered serious adequate to immediately block the full airport.
As a consequence of the alarm, flights from Copenhagen were cancelled or delayed. The KLM device from Amsterdam was diverted to Billund Airport. Air operations were only resumed after 11:00 p.m., erstwhile the service felt that the airspace was safe.
“It’s truly sad to see specified situations happen. But we have no choice – if something appears above our airport that we do not control, the precedence is passenger safety," said Kim Bermann, the airport's operating director, in a conversation with DR.
It's not the first specified incident.
This is another case where Aalborg airport had to temporarily suspend operations due to the presence of drones. The erstwhile akin incidental occurred in late September. Earlier, drones besides appeared at the airport of Kastrup in Copenhagen, leading to its temporary closure.
At the time, Danish prime minister Mette Frederiksen called a series of specified events a hybrid attack. Although no perpetrators have been identified, suspicions are directed towards sabotage or an intentional effort to test the weaknesses of safety systems.
The investigation is ongoing. The threat remains real
Although this time the incidental ended with a safe resumption of flights, Danish services do not hide concern. The investigation is to explain who is liable for the drones' flight in the prohibited zone. Airports are 1 of the most delicate areas of critical infrastructure – any specified incidental may not only consequence in traffic disruption but besides a real threat to the lives of passengers.
If we are actually dealing with elements of a hybrid war, possibly Denmark, like another countries, will gotta implement anti-accident technologies more quickly.
