The key part of the ORP “Burza” hull will be built by Nauta Shiprepair Yard, which has signed an agreement with the PGZ War Shipyard. The ship is the second unit built under the metre Programme. Work on it is already advanced. Launching the first of the frigate – ORP “Wicher” – in August.

The construction of 3 multi-tasking sword frigates follows the timetable and the engagement of national industry. A fewer days ago, the PGZ War Shipyard and Nauta Repair Shipyard signed a contract in Gdynia for the construction of the GB02ft block of the “Burza” frigata hull. The stamp for its construction was laid in December last year.
The paper concerning the hull was signed by Marcin Ryngwelski, president of the PGZ War Shipyard and Monika Kozakiewicz, president of Nauta Shiprepair Yard. Both companies belong to the PGZ and operate in Gdynia, which, as the manufacture emphasizes, allows for the efficient usage of local industrial and personnel potential. The PGZ War Shipyard acts as the main contractor of the “Miner” programme, liable for the design, method supervision and coordination of the construction of 3 frigates.
Ordering the construction of selected hull sections to specialized partners is standard in the ship industry. Previously, a akin solution was applied to ‘Wicher’ fregacie, whose bow block was performed by the Gdynia shipyard CRIST. This model allows you to simultaneously carry out work in respective centres and keep the required production rate.
– We are implementing the “Meaner” programme according to the agenda and with the maximum engagement of Polish industry. The commission of the “Burza” aft block of Nauta Shiprepair Yard is another example of the fact that we are building not only ships within the Polish Armed Forces Group, but besides a permanent network of shipbuilding competences," said Marcin Ryngwelski.
Nauta Shiprepair Yard, which celebrates this year's 100th anniversary, specializes in repairs, reconstruction and modernization of civilian ships and warships. Since 2014, it has been part of the Polish Armed Forces Group. The inclusion of Nauta in the program “The Sword” means a fresh kind of commitment for her – a transition from the service of the finished units to the participation in the construction of the fresh warship from scratch.
– We are arrogant to have joined the squad working on the biggest program in the past of the Polish Navy, i.e. the task of building 3 multipurpose frigates with the code name “Majnik”, said Monika Kozakiewicz, president of Nauta. She added that thanks to this cooperation the Shiprepair Yard will be able to make better usage of the joint experience of companies.
The Meal Programme includes the construction of 3 multi-purpose Arrowhead 140 frigates designed by Babcock global for the Navy. It is the largest contract in the past of the Polish shipbuilding manufacture (value approx. PLN 15.4 billion). The program is implemented by the PGZ-Miecznik Consortium, which consists of the Polish Armed Forces Group and the PGZ War Shipyard. The strategical partners are Babcock, Thales UK and MBDA UK.
The first frigate, ORP “Wicher”, will be launched in August 2026. At the end of April 2026 the first held cutting sheet for 3rd ship – ‘Hurgan’.
