The architectural competition for the monument won the task created by the Urban plan squad led by Stanisław Demin. The company previously designed the reconstruction of the destroyed manor from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries in Kiev, which housed the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine, and besides worked on the arrangement of capital squares.
According to Mayor Buczy, the fresh monument in the city will talk about business not through numbers or dates, but through form, material and silence.
— The main building will have a upside - down structure — a symbol of the upside - down lives of the city’s residents who have lost everything. The corridor will immerse visitors underground, but will bring them back to the surface to show the way people have gone — from fear to hope — said Fedoruk.
An artificial pond is planned nearby, on the shores of which the plates with the names of the victims will be placed. The ms monument was built on the grounds of the church of St Andrew the Apostle and All Saints, next to which 116 murdered residents were buried in the collective grave in 2022.
