The lawyer General Waldemar Żurek has asked the European Parliament to agree to bring Euro MP Grzegorz Braun to criminal liability. The case concerns his statements from July, in which he publically challenged the crimes committed in the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz. The politician... doesn't seem to care.

On 10 July, during a program on Radio Wnet, Grzegorz Braun denied the Holocaust respective times, calling it "fak" and "a pseudohistorical transmission". 4 days later, in the podcast "Jan Poszymalski talks" on YouTube, he questioned genocide in the gas chambers in Auschwitz.

Following notifications submitted, among others, by the MP of the Left Anna Maria Żukowska and the manager of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, Dr. Piotr Cywiński, the proceedings were initiated. According to Polsat News, the case is dealt with by the IPN investigative unit, which besides analysed the materials from the Warsaw Śródmieście-North territory Attorney's Office, which previously investigated controversial statements of the Euro MP.

The next step is the European Parliament's consideration of the matter, which, in accordance with the principles, must consent to bring Braun to justice.

The EP president, Robert Metsol, is to inform the full home of the request at the forthcoming plenary session in Strasbourg. The paper will then be addressed to the legal committee that will prepare the report. Only then will the Members decide by vote whether Braun's immunity will be waived. This procedure usually takes respective months.

Gregory Brain could lose immunity. He's reacting in his own style.

Braun himself, 1 of the most controversial figures of Polish politics, referred to the issue on Saturday during a press conference in Gdańsk devoted to the safety of Poland. "I no longer follow those proposals, which are most likely already expanding all week," said the right-wing politician quoted by Polsat News.

As he convinces the case "neither cold nor warms him." “How many more conclusions will this prosecutor’s office draw?” he asked rhetorically. According to the Euro MP, it is an effort to restrict freedom of expression and impose "only the right version of history" on Poles.

– The question of whether Polish public life will be managed by external curators deciding what is actual in past and in politics, whether Polish public life will be managed by service prosecutors, those who, in violation of constitutional laws, deny Polish patriots the right to act and to talk on Polish matters – he said.

The politician added that he was not afraid of the consequences. "I am to be tried, judged, I understand, finely punished, just as an example for others, so that they do not dare to ask uncomfortable questions and not engage in unlicensed inquiries by Jews, Ukrainians, Anglo-Saxons and a serviceful government in Warsaw," he said in his style.

Braun besides stressed that the Constitution guarantees him the right to freedom of speech and to conduct historical research. At the same time, he assured himself that he would "put himself on any call and give explanations."
