Grzegorz Braun announced his start in the presidential election.
– I'm gonna run for this election, with God and human help. This is simply a good project, and we will be able to increase the chances [...] that the next parliament will include a representation of Polish Catholics – he announced yesterday evening the Euro MP of the Confederate in a conversation with David Mysior from the Service of Dobra.
This decision raises both hopes and controversy in his political camp, especially in the context of a possible conflict with Sławomir Mentzen, another prominent leader of the Confederation. Euro MP Anna Bryłka in conversation with Polish Radio She already expressed deep discontent.
– I regret it due to the fact that I do not know what Mr Grzegorz is driving here, due to the fact that it is undoubtedly breaking the unity of the Confederacy, breaking the organization of the perfect right hand," she said. – As a substance of fact, Mr Grzegorz announced his start in spite of the resolution of the Council of Leaders de facto signed himself out of the Confederacy, i.e. he will not support Sławomir Mentzen in these presidential elections, so it is as if he were actually automatically removing himself from the full project.
The announcement of Braun's candidacy can so origin divisions in the bosom of the Confederate and even its dissolution. Grzegorz Braun is not a novice on the political stage. In the 2015 presidential election, he obtained 0.83% of the vote, which was the consequence of alternatively symbolic significance. In subsequent years, Braun gradually built his position as a leader of opinion in conservative and national circles. In 2019, he won a parliamentary mandate from the Confederate letter, which allowed him to further advance his programme.
In the local election, Braun besides noted average successes. In 2018, he ran for president of Gdańsk, scoring 11.86% of the vote and taking 3rd place. This consequence was recognised as evidence of its local popularity and the ability to mobilise the electorate under circumstantial conditions.
In the 2023 election, he successfully ran for parliamentary re-election, scoring 26,895 votes. In the 10th Parliament, between November and December 2023, he served on the Commission for European Union Affairs and the Committee on National Defence.In the 2024 European Parliament elections, he received the mandate of the Euro MP of the 10th term, taking second place on the Confederacy list in territory 10 with the support of 113,746 voters (7.64%).).
