Bożena Ratter: Pseudonic beautification and mythology of Rusi-Ukraine history
date:21 August 2026 Editor: Anna

Ukraine, Podole and Wołyń, are our erstwhile provinces, Kiev, Bracławskie, Podolskie and Wołyń and the Republic of Poland has belonged to Europe as much as possible since 966. In the Russian partition, it was the erstwhile state of Kiev, Podolska and Volyńska, and after regaining independency in the Second Polish Republic, it was the erstwhile state of Volyńskie Volyslawskie Stanislawskie tarnopolskie poleskie until 1945.
Prof. Czesław Partacz wrote in 2013 about the beautification and mythology of the current past of Ukraine:
"In order to break national complexes towards historical nations: Russians, Poles, or Hungarians, Ukrainians began to increasingly exposure their alienity to alleged "Material Ukrainian Embroidery" (MUZ). Over time, this has evolved into a nationalistic story of the Ukrainian "occupynt", no substance what global treaties and historical fact are in force.

To appear from the complex “a nation that appeared unexpectedly”, as Andrew Wilson writes, Ukrainian historians, regardless of their political orientation, began to make a very circumstantial past of their country and nation.

They saw his emergence in Bible times as Noah’s sons or grandchildren were the first inhabitants of Kiev. The later Aris and Scythians were Ukrainian farmers according to Yuri Kanyhin and Zenoviya Tkaczuk, or “chliborobs”. According to Ukrainian historians, it was the Praukrians who created the “tripil” culture (4000 - 2700 BC) and the “Ukrainian civilization” of which the first inhabitants in the planet domesticated the horse, built a wheel and a cart, melted copper and created the first writing. According to Ukrainian historiography, this writing was received from the “old Ukrainians” Greeks and Romans. The Ukrainians created Sumerian culture and the ancestors of Christ came from Galicia. any Ukrainian historians even claim that Hun chief Attila was the legendary Kiev who founded the city of Kiev.
We must realize that a reliable historian knows the request to keep the proportion between historical fact and myths. Poles know that Wanda's death in Wisla - what she did not want German, is just a legend that makes Poland's past for children.

This root dates back to the 19th century, erstwhile on a wave of aid to the Galician Russians, building a nation in opposition to Poles and Russians and the Old Russian, pro-Russian movement, Polish conservatives ruling Galicia brought young Ukrainian historian Mikhail Hrushevsky from Kiev to the Polish University in 1894.
This 28-year-old master, appointed for political reasons as a professor, began intensive technological work, releasing among others the monumental "Istorija U Krajina-Rusy" without many detailed, archival and archaeological studies.
Since these years, pseudo-scientific beautification and mythology of the past of Rusi-Ukraine began.

The imaginary Cossack statehood is shown by Ukrainian historiography as an empire and a partner of the leading powers of the planet (it had an equal relation with Sweden, England, imperialism and Papacy!). Similarly, the 18th and 19th centuries, erstwhile Poland, Russia and Austria were considered to be foreign, and politicians and parliamentarians (regardless of nationality) from the alleged Ukrainian lands, were considered representatives of Ukraine (which did not be as a political entity, or state)

As A. Zięba wrote: "When events cease to be facts and become legends for the historian, specified as 'the Lublin Legenda' or 'the Perejeslaw Legenda' in Lypyński' terms, it happens fabulously lush flourish under his pen."
