In our liquid reality, almost a 4th of a century is simply a distance of light years, yet let me callback a quote from a paper that was written and proclaimed in Gdańsk 24 years ago – the Charter of Human Responsibility. I was very lucky, as a teenager, to volunteer for the Forum for dialog in Gdańsk Areopag, who drafted this document, and time showed that it had a large influence on my civic improvement and today's perception of social relations.

Governance and common benefits

How to make a "social order that will guarantee the conditions for the interior improvement of all" on a city scale? That's the question people in power gotta ask each another all day. Participation in the community and social activity activate and integrate, let for effective usage of local potential, stimulate reality, influence the subjectivity of people and build communityhood, and yet reduce the cost of various kinds of projects. The sense of conduct is crucial to intellectual balance, due to the fact that it is on it that we build a sense of value (psychologists leave no uncertainty about it). The leaders of the local communities must so animate their lives in order to support citizens and citizens in their actions and responsibilities, due to the fact that they are good for themselves, for communities and, finally, for the condition of the people to whom we entrust power. For me, it's a duty. The municipality must follow the rule of subsidiarity (subsidiarity): as much power as necessary; as much freedom as possible and as many states as necessary; as much society as possible. I feel a work and accept the consequences of it, although it may be difficult, takes time, puts stress on me, forces me to compromise and inactive deprives a individual of well-being – a certainty that he knows best. But there is no another way.

The public consultations in Gdańsk are subject to many activities which later take a real shape. We have experience in this matter, due to the fact that the first civic panels were held in Gdańsk, which were then implemented in another Polish cities. We pack a table in the car, activate my deputies, heads of department and municipal companies, then invitation the residents and residents to the table standing in public and talk about what hurts and enjoys. This borough circular table is simply a fragment of a large furniture that, with the engagement of Gdańsk designers, produced the European Solidarity Centre on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the first partially free elections. I would like to callback another project, which is inactive ongoing and, as in the lens, focuses all the dimensions of causality and responsibility. In 4 confederate districts: Jasien, Ujeścisko-Łostowice, Zakoniczyn and Orunia Górna-Gdansk Południe, where the flat home was previously planned, the South Park is formed, the second largest in Gdańsk, after Reagan Park. It will cover an area of over 77 hectares. The work of designers was based on a public consultation involving over 1.3 1000 residents and residents. The park, although inactive in the phase of formation and this process will take respective years, already has its hosts.

Living together in the city requires compromises, self-limitation and common intentions of many, frequently very different people and residents. This is precisely what I want for all of us and for myself.
