On Friday in the Sejm, Prime Minister Donald Tusk presented information on the global situation and safety of Poland after the London Allied States Summit and the European Council gathering in Brussels. His speech sparked mixed reactions, and Deputy talker of the Sejm Krzysztof Bosak spared no criticism, calling the situation "unserious" and accusing the government of a deficiency of serious approach to the crisis.

Tusk on geopolitics and safety priorities

Prime Minister Tusk stressed in his speech that the key investment for Poland is the construction of the Shield of the East, which is to strengthen the safety of the country. He besides pointed out that Polish troops would not be sent to Ukraine, and the government plans to make a model of military training for adult men by the end of the year.

– After respective twelve meetings, talks, summits, telephone contacts, including the President, there is simply a image that cannot be turned away, just due to the fact that we are not rather comfortable with the image of changes that happen in geopolitics," Tusk said. The Prime Minister stressed that 2 dimensions stay the foundation of Polish security: transatlantic and strong position in a united Europe.

Criticism of Bosak: ‘Sedative and non-concrete occurrence’

However, the reaction to the Prime Minister's speech was not enthusiastic. Krzysztof Bosak, Deputy talker of the Sejm, accused Tusk of deficiency of concrete and serious approach to the situation. This is ridiculous. She shows that the Prime Minister does not treat the current situation as a crisis," Bosak commented.

The politician besides criticised the fact that Tusk left the area immediately after his speech, without waiting for questions and comments from Members. “I think that the Prime Minister should be here with us in the room, not leave immediately after his speech to the media and not return,” said Bosak.

Deputy talker of the Sejm accused the government of focusing on finance alternatively of real military activities. “We are faced with a mistake that, in a situation of real military threat, the government focuses mainly on money and to a tiny degree on the military,” he said. “No major state of its strategical projects funds for European money, due to the fact that it does not warrant discretion or full control,” he added.

Is the government playing on time?

Bosak besides pointed out the deficiency of updating the Polish defence doctrine. “We expected to hear here something we could call updated Polish defence doctrine. Nothing sounded like it, he said. In his opinion, the Prime Minister's speech was "sleeping out" and "inconclusive", and the only specifics afraid finance.

– The speech of the Prime Minister was a timely game, to put the hall to sleep and on a general, evasive communicative about the summits – Bosak concluded.

Summary: Crisis or propaganda?

The speech of Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the Sejm sparked controversy. On the 1 hand, the government underlines the importance of investment in security, specified as the Shield of the East, on the another hand, the opposition accuses the deficiency of concrete and serious approach to the global situation. Is the government playing on time or is it missing a strategical vision? This question will only be answered by further government action.
