General Igor Kirillov, Russian commander of radiochemical and biological safety troops, died in Moscow on Tuesday. His assistant died with him. The detonation took place in front of a residential building on Prospekt Riazański, or in the south-eastern part of the capital of Russia. As determined by the Russian service, the bomb was hidden in an electrical scooter. The blast force matched 200 grams of TNT.
According to Russian media, investigators and forensics experts are presently conducting a detailed investigation at the scene. No information has yet been provided on the suspects or motives of the perpetrators.
Charges of General to the United States
General Igor Kirillov has since 2023 become celebrated for the controversial briefings organized by the Russian Ministry of Defence. During this process, he suggested that the United States is moving biological weapons programs in Ukraine. Kirillov claimed, among another things, that the U.S. had developed a method utilizing mosquito-carriers that would be utilized as weapons against the enemy's troops.
Such accusations were widely commented on, but there was no evidence to support these claims. General reports were cited by Russian state media and propaganda news channels.

The detonation in Russia’s capital, just a fewer kilometres from the Kremlin, has caused many speculations. Whether it was a planned operation or an accidental attack remains unclear. Russian investigative services have initiated an investigation to explain the circumstances of the General's death and his assistant.
