Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw.

Prof. Jerzy Gaździcki shared his memories from the times of the Uprising: – On 1 August we dug out from the clipboard a white-red banner of modest dimensions. I hung it in the window of home number 13A on Tamka, over the “Vienna” cafe. erstwhile after a while I looked from the same window, I saw German armored vehicles passing through Kościuszkowski Coast. A fewer days later, in the courtyard of the Polish Teachership Union, I swore an oath to the National Army. It was not an easy task due to the fact that we were under fire from grenade launchers. Our unit was building a barricade and a alleged veil that made it hard to fire Powiśl from the bridges on which Germans moved. This veil later went to beautiful literature, to the work of Kazimierz Brandys.

Prof. Gadźcki emphasized that 2 terms should be remembered during the characterization of insurgents and their families: heroism and martyrdom.
The ceremony was attended by members of the community of Warsaw University, Warsawians and guests. The insurgent songs were sung by the Chamber Choir Collegium Musicum UW with the support of the Academic Choir of the University of Warsaw.
