The Toruń territory Court ruled that a knife attack on the carotid artery was an attempted execution and sentenced Oleksander H. to 9 years in prison. The Ukrainian defender announced the appeal despite reconciliation between the perpetrator and the victim.

This incident, which took place during the fresh Year's Eve on Popiela Street at the turn of 2022 and 2023, will stay long in memory of residents. Oleksander H., attacked his sister's fiancé with a knife, damaging his carotid artery. Although the man survived through fast medical assistance, the court sentenced a 32-year-old Ukrainian to 9 years in prison for attempted murder. However, his lawyer, Mariusz Lewandowski, believes that the punishment is besides severe and announces the appeal.

The incidental occurred on 31 December 2022 in 1 of the apartments at Popiela Street in Toruń. Oleksander H., a 32-year-old male, attacked his sister's fiancé, who was a Ukrainian at the age of 63. According to investigators, the attack was brutal and precise, and the victim suffered serious injuries, including a deep stab wound to the neck, with a hemorrhaging to the neck that damaged the jugular vein, transverse artery, and a wide neck muscle. If it wasn't for effective medical assistance, the victim might not have survived. Formally, the victim's injuries have been described as "infringing body function for more than 7 days", exacerbating the criminal consequences for the perpetrator.

Oleksander H. attacked the victim mainly due to strained relations between them, as the D.A. handed over. The men had no good relations, and the direct origin of the attack was the refusal by her fiancé to give money to buy alcohol, as the accused himself explained.

Following the incidental Oleksander H. was immediately detained and temporarily arrested, and his arrest was regularly extended.

During the trial before the Toruń territory Court, Ukrainians were found guilty of attempted execution and sentenced to 9 years of ruthless imprisonment, despite being formally threatened with life imprisonment.

His defender challenged the severity of the sentence, arguing that 9 years was besides long a punishment, especially since the parties had meantime reconciled. The case has not yet been final, as the prosecution has requested a written message of reasons and an appeal is besides possible.

Surely the Ukrainian defender will appeal the verdict. The conviction is besides severe. It was an occasional event, in emotion, with 1 punch," said the defence attorney.

The lawyer emphasizes that the perpetrator and the victim reconciled. -My client expressed his deep regret and remorse for what he did and for the consequences – the lawyer adds.

In the opinion of the defender it is besides crucial that after the knife attack Oleksander H. did not run anywhere, he did not hide. - He was waiting for the police to arrive. To the officers He no longer showed any aggression – Mariusz Lewandowski concludes. The Ukrainian remains in custody. His destiny in the future will be settled in the Court of Appeal in Gdańsk.
