Mariusz Błaszczak refused to answer the questions of Radom Wit from TVN24 about the action of the authorities after the disappearance of Sylwester Suszka, the creator of the BitBay stock exchange. During the conversation in the Sejm corridor, described on September 1, the politician focused on the criticism of the station. The case shows that the media dispute again obscured the question of the state's responsibility.
The missing individual question, the tv answer
Radomir Wit asked the erstwhile national defence minister what the authorities were doing about BitBay and after fresh Year's Suszka disappeared. Mariusz Błaszczak did not mention to the meaning. Instead, he stated that at the reporter's station his environment had a negative opinion, and Donald Tusk had a affirmative opinion.
The writer replied that there was no tv in his question. Błaszczak cut off the conversation, explaining that he knows Wita Station and sometimes watches it. The exchange of views itself was short, but it shows well the illness of the Polish debate: the question about the functioning of the institutions of the state was immediately replaced by a dispute about editorial sympathy.
This does not mean that the problem of media bias is being conceived. Poles have the right to critically measure the way in which the largest stations choose subjects, interlocutors and accents. However, a politician who has previously held advanced state functions should be able to separate the legitimate charge against the average from the answer to a circumstantial question on the safety and effectiveness of the state authorities.
Investigations after years
Sylwester Suszek, founder of BitBay cryptocurrency stock exchange, disappeared in March 2022. According to the WP News, in early August 2026 the investigation into his disappearance was linked to the Zondacrypto investigation, the successor of BitBay. That's the context behind the reporter's questions.
The Zondacrypto thread became part of an acute political conflict. The rulers accuse the erstwhile power of inaction, and PiS politicians point to the usage of proceedings for political spectacles. Accusations and procedural decisions must be accurately reported, respecting the presumption of innocence.
The State must correspond to the facts
In democratic Poland, the media have no right to request ideological submission from politicians. Politicians should not, in turn, usage the debate with the editorial board as a shield before any uncomfortable question. A citizen has the right to know whether the services and the prosecution worked smoothly, who made the decisions and why after respective years of proceedings were merged.
At stake is not the prestige of TVN24, PiS or the current government. At stake is the trust of Poles in the state to explain missing persons and conduct investigations regardless of the political calendar. Media war can't replace answers. If institutions have made mistakes, you gotta name them. If the allegations against the erstwhile authorities are politically blown, this should besides be shown in documents.
