At the beginning of the year, local social media lived on a communicative presented by a Chinese blogger surviving in fresh York. 1 day, he spotted a homeless man on the street who most likely was Chinese. The blogger wanted to verify his hunch, approached this man and made conversation with him. And the longer he talked, the more shocked he was.
It turned out that the homeless graduated from the prestigious FuDan University (chin. 复旦大学) in Shanghai. He then left for the United States to proceed his studies.
After publishing a short video on social media, a homeless man was recognized by college colleagues and friends who confirmed his story.
This man is simply a 54-year-old Sun Wei Dong (chin. 孙卫东) born in the town of JiangYin (chin. 江阴), in Jiangsu state (chin. 江苏). He studied physics at Fudan University. After graduating, in the early 1990s he decided to leave for the United States and there at the City University of fresh York he obtained a master's degree and then a doctor of physical science. He decided not to go back to the country. He first worked as a investigation and investigation employee, continuing further studies in the field of computer science. He then worked for 2 years as a programmer on Wall Street, earning over $130,000 a year (about PLN 514,818). Shortly thereafter, he accepted American citizenship and received a US passport. According to his story, he was married for 7 years. due to his gambling addiction, he lost his luck and his wife who divorced him. As a result, he struggled with emotional problems that prevented him from surviving and working properly. Since 2007, he has been a drifter with charity and feeding what he finds in dumpsters. He lost contact with his household and colleagues in China.
The video publication led Sun Wei Dong's loved ones and friends to learn about the fate. He was besides curious in the Fudan University postgraduate Association in fresh York, which helps him to depend on his apartment, return to normality and possibly return to the country. Sun said he wanted to. However, it is not that simple due to the fact that Sun is an American citizen and Chinese law does not recognise double citizenship. There is besides a cultural barrier, due to the fact that traditionally Chinese people surviving abroad inform their loved ones only about good events, avoiding mentioning the bad to preserve “face”. Sun is ashamed to ask his household in the country for help.
Is Sun's communicative true? He's the only 1 who knows. Will his case end in happy ending? That's impossible to predict. The postgraduate Association will surely effort to support Sun as far as it can so he can get back on his feet in the US.
