NEW YORK– Barclays has officially removed its lineup of co-branded credit cards with American Airlines (AA) and Hawaiian Airlines (HA) from its website, signaling the end of new applications for these products.
The move took effect on October 1, 2025, coinciding with HawaiianMiles’ integration into Alaska Airlines’ (AS) new Atmos Rewards program. The withdrawal was anticipated, as Citi is set to become the exclusive U.S. issuer of American Airlines’ co-branded credit cards by 2026.

Barclays Removing Co-Branded Credit Cards
Barclays has discontinued new applications for these popular co-branded products that it was once associated with:
- AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite Mastercard,
- Hawaiian Airlines World Elite Mastercard
- Hawaiian Airlines Business Mastercard.
Attempts to apply for these cards now lead to broken or redirected links.
Direct application pages for the Aviator Red and Hawaiian World Elite cards return error messages, while the Hawaiian Business Mastercard link redirects applicants to the Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards program page.

The Move Was Expected
Citi’s exclusive partnership with American Airlines has spanned more than three decades and was renewed in late 2024.
Under the updated agreement, Citi will hold exclusive domestic rights to issue American Airlines credit cards from 2026. Current Barclays AAdvantage Aviator cardholders will see their accounts transferred to Citi once the transition is complete.
For Hawaiian Airlines, the timing aligns with the official end of the HawaiianMiles program on October 1, 2025.
Balances have now been converted at a one-to-one ratio into Atmos Rewards points, and members have been assigned new loyalty numbers.
Barclays’ withdrawal from Hawaiian Airlines card issuance reflects the natural conclusion of this integration.

Current Cardholders’ Situation
Existing Barclays cardholders with either American Airlines or Hawaiian Airlines cards will not see immediate changes to their accounts. Current benefits remain in place, and customers can continue using their cards as normal until transitions occur.
For American Airlines cards, the changeover to Citi is expected to take place during 2026, reports Upgraded Points.
Hawaiian Airlines cardholders, however, have not yet been given a specific transition date, though their loyalty program benefits are now tied to Atmos Rewards.
Travelers seeking new airline credit cards tied to Hawaiian’s successor program can now apply for Atmos Rewards products. Some of the options in the Atmos Rewards products include the following:
- Atmos Rewards Ascent Visa Signature
- Atmos Rewards Summit Visa Infinite
- Atmos Rewards Visa Business card.
Bottom Line
The changes reflect an ongoing trend of airlines streamlining loyalty programs and partnering exclusively with fewer financial institutions, reshaping customer choices in both aviation and credit card markets.
For Barclays, the exit reduces its footprint in the U.S. co-branded airline card market, while Citi and Bank of America strengthen their positions with American and Alaska respectively.
