B.Ratter: Polish state school must rise young people[...] to good Polish citizens

The task of universal education is not to rise and educate an abstract man or an abstract citizen of any state, but a citizen of the Polish state, a state which is the legal organization of the existence of an independent collective personality and the will of the Polish people. The starting point of all state work in Poland - erstwhile it is to preserve and not destruct regained independency - is the axiom: the sovereign of the Polish country is the Polish nation - prof. 1) the state school in the Polish country must educate young people, both Polish and Polish, to be good Polish citizens, and thus to give it a Polish spirit culture, to make in it the love of Polish literature, art, cult of Polish heroes, pride in belonging to the Polish state, a sense of commonness with the Polish nation of past and if not unity is at least racial and linguistic kinship with the Polish population of the country;

2) State school must satisfy the crucial cultural needs of the people of both non-Polish and Polish. So as far as the Russian and Belarusian populations feel the real request to learn Russian and Belarusian - the state school should give it to her.

However, it is not its task to make a separate national Russian or Belarusian civilization.

The Polish nation is simply a spiritual whole. If his thought present is not sufficiently uniform and consistent, the will not sufficiently persistent and strong, it can make it more united, establish, strengthen.

But to draw common thought and will from Poles who want prosperity, power, fame of the Polish state, Germans who cannot get over that their regulation on Polish lands ended, Jews who consider the Polish people as goys, given by Jehovah to the benefit of the “chosen people”, Rusins whose heroes Chmielnicki, Gonta, Żeleźniak, who are aware only of their locality - it is an inheritable dream.
