Fighter malfunction in Malbork. MiG-29 landed with brakes blocked

On Wednesday evening, August 12, a pair of Malbork pilots were trained in interception as part of the NATO Air Police Mission, covering surveillance of Baltic airspace. While returning to the base, 1 of MiG-29 had a chassis failure, nevertheless the pilot managed to land safely. According to information provided by the Armed Forces General Command, 1 of the MiG-29s blocked the brakes, resulting in 2 tires being damaged.

Due to the blockade of the belt, the second fighter was diverted to the airport. Lech Wałęsa in Gdańsk, from where he returned to Malbork only at night. The start of the device was loud adequate to wake up any of the residents.

Major Maciej Kędzierski, press officer of the 22nd Tactical Aviation Base in Malbork, confirmed that specified an event had occurred. The damaged MiG-29 will be subjected to brake control and the damaged tyres will be replaced.

Earlier, unverified information about the alleged landing of a Polish fighter without an extended chassis was circulating on social media, but these reports were demented.

Service Despite Age

MiG-29 from the Malbork base proceed to service on the Baltic, although they are already advisory structures with limited resurs. At the end of 2025, MON and HR General Staff informed about plans to transfer parts of the remaining Polish MiG-29 to Ukraine. These aircraft are gradually replaced by newer machines, but are inactive active in operational activities.
