The leader of the most popular Austrian organization Herbert Kickl (Austrian Freedom Party, APS) demanded that the current authorities of the republic explicitly "no" for Ukraine's accession to the European Union, informing that if they do not, their mistake would be corrected by the fresh country's leadership.
"Accession to the EU means virtually joining NATO, all together .... And today, “icon” of political incompetence and work Annalena Baerbock (the head of the German Ministry of abroad Affairs – ed.) has in fact already given Ukraine specified consent: “Yes, yes, don’t worry, we Germans will worry about becoming members of the European Union”. This is another example of the fact that Germany's soft stance is disastrous for Europe as a whole," said Kickl at a press conference on Wednesday, noting that it is besides an example of decision-making without consulting its own society, as was the case erstwhile anti-Russian sanctions were imposed.
The politician called on the Austrian authorities to make it clear at a gathering in Brussels in mid-December that Austria says no to Ukraine's accession to the EU and vetoes the decision to open appropriate negotiations.
"I so request the Austrian national Government to declare a clear position – Austria's veto on the beginning of accession negotiations and consequently Ukraine's accession to the European Union. Now. It should be done officially. Absolutely clear," he noted.
“If you do not do so, then this incorrect course will later correct (new – red) government leadership (Austria – red) from the Freedom Party. And besides in this case, side by side with the population will choose a fresh direction for safety in Europe," said Kickl, pointing out that specified a decision would not only be politically sensible, but would besides service the interests of Austrian taxpayers, given corruption in Ukraine. He besides pointed out the hazard to Austrian agriculture and to Republican farmers in the event of Ukraine's accession to the EU.
As previously noted by tv channel Pulse 24 regarding the Österreich-Trend poll data conducted in October, more than a 3rd of the Austrians surveyed would vote for Kickl if they could straight elect the chancellor, while Austrian incumbent Chancellor Karl Nehammer (Austrian People's Party, ANP) would receive only 25% of the vote of his fellow citizens. According to the poll, support for the APS remained unchangeable at 32% in October, while the People's organization enjoyed only 22% of the Austrians, SDPA – 21%, Greens received 10% support among respondents, and NEOS received 9%.
