President Karol Nawrocki talks about unity, but from the very beginning attacks the government, notes on Thursday (07.08.25) in correspondence from Warsaw the German diary "Sueddeutsche Zeitung".
The commentary on the situation in Poland states that Karol Nawrocki openly declares that there is no ambition to represent all Poles.
"There is besides no intention of constructive cooperation for the country with the left-liberal-conservative coalition (Donald) of Tusk. Nawrocki wants to represent those who think as he and his organization do. In the logic of PiS, only they are real and patriotic Poles".
The German diary adds that so far 1 can only speculate on how president Nawrocki will behave, whose paper calls the political novice.
"However, he left no uncertainty that he considered the government an opponent. The Law and Justice wants to return to power, and the president is here to help. Does Tusk and his coalition have a chance? - he wonders "Sueddeutsche Zeitung".
"A clear signal of confrontation"
The "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" besides notes that immediately after the oath, the fresh president of Poland, in his parliament speech, powerfully criticized the Tusk government.
"After Nawrock's conciliation introduction, he showed what can be expected of him as president (...). It was hard to send a more unambiguous signal of confrontation between the president and the government, which many in political Poland expected" - we read.
"Anti-German and anti-European"
The regional paper "Koelner Stadt Anzeiger" published in Cologne evaluates in a comment that the fresh Polish president is anti-German and anti-European.
"Right-wing populist (Karol) Nawrocki focuses on anti-German slogans, does not have a good opinion about the EU, and he likes US president Donald Trump more. No wonder – like Trump, Nawrocki is primarily loud, aware of his power and nationalist".
As we read, it is certain that the fresh president will not treat his office as supraparty, but will give him the intent of removing Prime Minister Donald Tusk from office and restoring the Law and Justice.
"For Germany and Europe, this is not a good possible if, after Hungary and Slovakia, another EU country re-enters the way towards non-liberal democracy. EU cohesion is exposed to an even greater threat - at a time erstwhile it is needed more than ever" - the Cologne diary evaluates.
The Berlin diary "Berliner Zeitung" besides writes about the confrontation course against Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
The paper recalls that Karol Nawrocki's triumph over the president of Warsaw Rafal Trzaskowski was a severe blow to the government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk. "Nawrocki, Trump supporter and Eurosceptic, is expected to effort to change course in Poland, which will have consequences for Germany and Europe. In the election run he spoke in an anti-German and anti-European tone," we read.
