Though Leon XIV will not arrive on October 27
to Assisi, the participants of the prayer for peace will be spiritually united with him. This was emphasized by the curator of the Holy Convention Fr Marco Moroni OFMConv, expressing his gratitude for his continued commitment The Pope for peace.
With respect to the cancellation of the papal visit
O. Marco Moroni OFMConv made the following statement:
“To the very end, we hoped that Holy Father Leon XIV would be able to come to Assisi to conduct a prayer on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the interreligious gathering in the spirit of Assisi, initiated by St. John
Paul II. At the same time, we are profoundly grateful to him due to the fact that – as we have seen besides during his days of residence
in infirmary and recovery – his commitment
for the sake of peace continues continuously. Therefore, on Tuesday, though at a distance, we will pray in conjunction with him. We besides hope that he will shortly come to Assisi, to the tomb of St. Francis, possibly even before the end of the Franciscan Jubilee Year announced by him.”
